Our arrival was met with a warm welcome by Nicky, Sam and staff of the Goodness Gracious Organic & Gluten free Cafe. http://www.goodnessgraciousglutenfree.net Fortified by drinks (including a favourite, KTs Sugar N Spice tea!), we relaxed into the comfortable sitting room and greeted each other.
‘The Cafe and the creatives’ session began with the energy of one who has just discovered that the rock in hand, is actually a semi-precious stone!
Memories shifted from the recesses of our minds. Shared memories opened the door to fresh insights:
-A Grandmother saving the butter wraps and milk bottle tops, finding uses from ordinary waste.
-Cultural practices weaving creativity, spirituality and community.
-Reflecting on the uniqueness of indigenous heritage and recognising common threads in humanity’s response to fibres and available resources.
Inspired by the ingenuity of our collective ancestors, we folded, turned, glued and repurposed paper to create our gift bags. As the shapes emerged, our attention diverted to twisting leaves of household plants and fibre of the giant herb, banana, into twine.
Within our creative and cozy surrounds, stories were shared and time flew. A delicious lunch was enjoyed by those of us who were able to stay, to celebrate our surge in creativity and appetite!
New memories of the morning in Yandina: blue sky, vibrant art, handcrafts, companionship, new skills, patience, confidence, individuality, care, ideas and wholesome food!
